Frequently Asked Questions

We would love to give you a guided tour. Starlite is a private gated community, so please email us to make an appointment at reservations@starlitelodge.com.

Can we look around Starlite?

Starlite was created to provide a safe haven for the LBGTQIA+ community. We welcome allies and anyone with an open mind and open heart.

Is Starlite LGBTQIA+ only?

Yes, some members have children and grandchildren. Please be aware that the adults typically enjoy poolside drinks, so kids’ pool hours are limited to 10 am to 2 pm.

Is Starlite family-friendly?

Yes, you can fish in the lake or river as long as you have a valid North Carolina fishing license. You’re welcome to eat what you catch from the river, but the lake is catch-and-release.

Can you fish at Starlite?

Unfortunately, there is no reliable cell service with any cellular carrier. Boosters will not work here either. Pay-per-use Wi-Fi is available throughout the park with daily, weekly, and monthly plans.

If you have questions, contact our Wi-Fi service provider by texting (828) 785-9434 or (828) STL-WIFI.

Is there cell signal? Wi-Fi?

How should I prepare for my stay at Starlite?

Do your grocery shopping before arriving. The nearest grocery store is 8 miles away, which takes about 30 minutes on mountain roads. The Collettsville General Store is about 15 minutes away and sells convenience items, pizza, ice cream, prepared foods, and hardware. If you forget your toothbrush and toothpaste, you can purchase a toiletry kit from our vending machine in the lodge kitchen.

Yes, it’s safe to enjoy a variety of river activities, including wading, tubing, floating, and swimming. Please bring a second swimsuit and shower before entering the pool to prevent the spread of red algae.

Is it safe to enjoy the river?

No. We pride ourselves on inclusivity; however, we’re a family-friendly campground. Clothing is required in all public areas.

Is it clothing optional at Starlite?

We practice sustainability and encourage our guests and members to recycle. There’s a recycling and waste center near the storage sheds and woodpile across from the lodge.

How does Starlite handle waste?

Yes, mail and packages can be delivered here for members at the lodge. USPS picks up letters and small packages with prepaid postage in the mailbox across the street from our gate.

Can you receive and send mail?

What’s the best way to track the weather?

We have our own Starlite Weather Station or you can use Collettsville as a point of reference on your preferred weather site. Although Blowing Rock is closer than Collettsville, it’s significantly higher in elevation and has different weather.

We love fur babies! Pets are welcome at RV, van, and tent sites, but please keep them on a leash when they’re outside.

Due to insurance requirements outside of our control, certain breeds are not allowed, including pit bulls, akitas, dobermans, rottweilers, and wolf hybrids.

What is Starlite’s pet policy?
